Busy Is Not the Same as Productive

Image
We wear “ busy ” like a badge of honor. “I’ve been so busy.” “Today was crazy.” “Back-to-back meetings.” Somehow, being busy feels like proof that we matter. Last week, I had one of those “productive-looking” days. Back-to-back meetings. Constant notifications. Emails answered within minutes. Notes filled. Calendar blocked. By 8 PM, I was exhausted. And yet, when I paused and asked myself what actually moved forward that day… I couldn’t point to a single meaningful outcome. That’s when it hit me. I wasn’t productive. I was busy. We wear “busy” like a badge of honor. “How’s work?” “Crazy.” “So much happening.” “No time to breathe.” Somehow, being busy sounds impressive. It sounds ambitious. It sounds important. But when did busy become the same thing as productive? Because they aren’t the same. Busy is movement. Productive is progress. And movement is much easier to perform. Why We Choose Busy? Busy feels safe. When you’re constantly occupied, you don’t have to sit alone with...

Somewhere Between Yesterday and Office Forms

It’s surprising how fast we age- not physically, but emotionally. It feels like yesterday when sukhmeet and I were just neighbors. We used to play at each other’s houses, run around without any reason, fight over stupid games, and laugh at the most cringey things. Our world was small, noisy, and full of nonsense  the good kind. The same two people who once knew each other’s most embarrassing thoughts now talk in structured sentences. The same bond that survived childhood chaos now exists in polite check-ins and “hope you’re doing well.” The conversations didn’t stop  they just changed their tone. What’s strange is that there was no dramatic moment. No announcement. No clear goodbye to childhood. Life si...

The debate was simple, yet complex: “Which is easier to sell  a product or a service?” On the surface, it seems like a straightforward question. But as soon as you start analyzing, it becomes clear: there is no easy answer. Products, for example, come with a set of unique challenges - Inventory needs to be maintained, pricing must be differentiated, stock-outs can occur, transportation needs to be managed, and returns are a constant reality. Even in commodity businesses, the seemingly simple act of selling a product involves a chain of operational considerations that can make scaling complicated. Services, on the other hand, tend to have fewer logistical headaches. Think of platforms like Uber or Urban Company. There’s no physical inventory to manage. The focus shifts to quality, delivery, and after-sales support. Services do ...
